About

All-On-4, All-On-6, or All-On-X are the implants used to replace your missing teeth if most or all of your teeth are missing.

The numbers refer to the number of implants placed. All-On-4 uses four implants, All-On-6 uses six implants, etc.

Once the implants are placed, then a dental bridge is connected. Generally speaking, the more implants, the more solid the anchorage for the dental bridge is.

Why Use Additional Implants?

When we’re talking about fixed implant dental bridges, the retention is different than snap-on removable dentures that clip onto two or four dental implants. You need enough stability to support the biting pressure of a full arch of teeth.

An All-on-4 implant system is the bare minimum when it comes to a firm enough foundation for everyday biting and chewing. But for someone with extensive bone and tooth loss, sunken jaw anatomy, or who was already wearing temporary dentures, extra implants may be needed.

Kateryna Yuryk, CRDH is a 2007 graduate of the dental hygiene program at the University of Illinois Chicago College of Dentistry. Every year Kateryna takes continued education classes to implement the newest technologies in patient care.
